Sometimes it doesn’t take much to escape the daily grind for a moment - just a loved one, a blanket, a few treats, and the setting sun over the water.
For this couple’s photo shoot, we met on a warm summer evening at a small, secluded quarry pond near Hamburg. The light was soft, the air was mild, and between a small picnic on the shore, conversations about everything under the sun, and quiet moments in the here and now, we captured completely natural and timeless images.

A LITTLE HIGHLIGHT ON THE WATER
One special detail of this shoot was the air mattress, which we quickly turned into a small raft. It floated gently on the lake. The couple had made themselves comfortable on it - gazing up at the sky, out at nature, and always at each other.
They read, laughed, and simply enjoyed the moment. It’s exactly these small, genuine moments that make a couple’s photo shoot so special to me. It’s not about perfect poses, but about genuine closeness and time spent together.
As the sun slowly disappeared behind the trees and the light grew softer and softer, images emerged that captured the very essence of this evening: light, serene, and full of connection.
WHY A QUARRY LAKE IS PERFECT FOR A COUPLE'S PHOTO SHOOT
There are many beautiful natural spots for couple photo shoots around Hamburg and in southern Schleswig-Holstein—and for me, a lake is one of the most beautiful of them all. Water, reflections of light, and a natural sense of calm create a setting where genuine moments seem to happen almost on their own.
The best time for a photo shoot by the lake is just before sunset. The warm, soft light of the golden hour brings photos to life and gives them a warmth that’s hard to replicate artificially. Especially on warm summer evenings, the atmosphere there is perfect for natural couple photography - no rush, no hustle and bustle, just time together.
