Between two rain showers
Rain, wind, a gray February day, and one of the most atmospheric maternity photo shoots of the year.
The parents-to-be were so flexible with their schedule that day that we waited together for that one moment when the opportunity arose - the brief window between two rain showers. And that window was enough.
We were almost alone in the sand dunes and the adjacent pine forest. Only a few people walking their dogs crossed our path - and stopped briefly to congratulate the expectant parents from a distance. One of those little moments that nobody planned, yet will remain forever in the photos.

IF THE WEATHER COOPERATES - OR NOT
This day proved what I experience time and again: Beautiful memories aren’t just made in the sunshine.
Cloudy, diffused light is often softer and more even than direct sunlight. The wind blowing through the pine forest, the damp air after the rain, the subdued light of a February day - all of this gave these memories their very own character. A mood that would never have emerged on a sunny spring day.
You could sense the two of them looking forward to their upcoming adventure, and that’s exactly what you see in every photo.
DUNES IN WINTER - AN UNDERRATED LOCATION FOR MATERNITY PHOTOSHOOTS
The dunes around Hamburg and in Schleswig-Holstein are special all year round - even in fall and winter, they have a unique atmosphere.
Fewer people, more open space, and light that behaves quite differently than in summer. And if you’re willing to wait for the right moment - even when the sky isn’t cooperating - you’ll capture images that stand out from the crowd.
